Deadline is reporting that Kaufman will write and direct the indie, "Frank or Francis," and has signed Jack Black, Nicolas Cage on for the film already; currently, Steve Carell is in talks to board, too.
Ready your comments, because The Hollywood Reporter relays that the film has been described as "a Hollywood satire in which Frank, a film director, finds himself dealing with an online blogger, Francis, out to attack his work."
Kaufman, an Oscar-winner for his screenplay for "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind," directed "Synecdoche, New York," the next step in a career that has become known for deep, occasionally confusing art films that attract big stars. He already knows Cage well; the actor starred in Kaufman's 2002 flick, "Adaptation," as both an overweight struggling writer and his successful if idiotic brother.
It's a good move for Cage, too, who has been starring in some less-than-top notch films of late, such as "Drive Angry," and "Season of the Witch." He has a number films on his docket, including the upcoming "Trespass" with Nicole Kidman, "The Hungry Rabbits" with January Jones, "Medallion" with Malin Ackerman and another "Ghost Rider" film.
As for Carell, the former "Office" star debuts "Crazy, Stupid, Love." next weekend, and, after that, will do "Seeking a Friend for the End of the World," with Keira Knightley. He recently appeared on "The Daily Show," his old stomping grounds.
Black just voiced "Kung Fu Panda 2" and starred with Matthew McConaughey and Shirley MacLaine in the Richard Linklater film, "Bernie." He'll soon star with Owen Wilson and Steve Martin in "The Big Year."
