Samsung vs. Apple, Galaxy Phone/Tab/Player vs. iPhone/iPad/iPod -- the rivalry is real and it's only growing in courtrooms and on store shelves.

Case in point: On the same day Apple announces its iPhone 4S, Samsung releases a teaser video on YouTube hyping up the new smartphone it's expected to unveil in full next week at its Samsung Unpacked event in San Diego.

That phone is rumored to go by the name Nexus Prime, which is expected to be the first device that will run Google's Android Ice Cream Sandwich operating system.

Ice Cream Sandwich is set to be the first Android OS that is the same software for tablets and smartphones, which is similar to the approach that Apple takes with iOS, its software for the iPhone and iPad.

Do we know for sure that the new Samsung Android handset that will go head-to-head with Apple's iPhone (the single best-selling smartphone on the planet) will be called the Nexus Prime? No.

For now, that's a rumor. A heavily circulated rumor. And as we all know, rumors don't always pan out. Just ask all those who predicted Apple would announce an iPhone 5 with a larger screen and new form factor this week.

But, from the video, it sure seems that Samsung is trying to tell us that yes, a new phone (or maybe a tablet? Or maybe both?) will make its debut at Samsung Unpacked and it looks as ifit will have some pretty radically curved glass on the face, something last seen on Samsung's Nexus S smartphone.

We'll keep you posted on how this all plays out with coverage of Samsung Unpacked next week. Stay tuned.
