Apple.com tribute to Steve Jobs

Steve Jobs family is working on building a website on which people will be able to share memories of the Apple co-founder who is credited with changing computing and American culture.

Jobs' family announced the formation of the site, which is expected to launch soon, in a statement issued on Wednesday night after he died.

Steve died peacefully today surrounded by his family.

In his public life, Steve was known as a visionary; in his private life, he cherished his family. We are thankful to the many people who have shared their wishes and prayers during the last year of Steve’s illness; a website will be provided for those who wish to offer tributes and memories.

We are grateful for the support and kindness of those who share our feelings for Steve. We know many of you will mourn with us, and we ask that you respect our privacy during our time of grief.

Apple is collecting thoughts, memories and condolences at an email address it has set up: rememberingsteve@apple.com. Apple hasn't said whether or not messages contributed to the email account will end up on the Jobs family's website, but it is likely as the Jobs family has made Apple its point of contact for media-related matters.

Steve Jobs: 1955-2011

After news of Jobs' death broke on Wednesday, Apple.com's homepage was changed to display a well-known black-and-white photo of the man who many have said is our modern-day Thomas Edison.
