After you build your website, the number one concern you should have is promoting the site. There have been many books and articles written about website promotion, and there are countless ways to go about promoting your site. As such, I have taken some of these suggestions and modified them so that translators in particular can take advantage of them.
Here are five suggestions that you can implement to get more people to visit your Internet translator website:
1) Post in language forums where a signature is allowed. Many language and translation forums do not allow signatures, but some do. One that does allow signatures is the About.com Spanish forum. After you make a post or post a reply you'll usually see an increase in the traffic to your translator website.
2) Write articles on translation or language learning. There are many language directories that are in need of short articles on language issues. When people read these articles, they often follow the website link you have in your signature and visit your site. 3) Hand out translator business cards. How many translators do you know that have business cards? Many of the translators I know don't have any. For whatever reason, hey think that they don't need business cards. I say that anything you can use to get people to visit your translation website will eventually help you to get more business, and putting your website address on your business card will bring in some business. Even if you only get one customer from passing out 100 business cards, that customer could bring you more business than you could imagine.
4) Submit your website to language-specific and country-specific directories. For example, if you are a Russian translator living in Australia, make sure to submit your website to Australian search engines as well as search engines in Russian. Many translators simply focus on submitting their websites to the main search engines, but oftentimes the language- and country-specific search engines and directories can bring in even more focused leads to your website. Whether you're an English-Spanish Internet translator or a Chinese-English legal translator, you can find directories to submit your site to.
5) Exchange links with other translators. Translators usually only translate between two or three language. Exchanging links with a translator that works in a different language than your own is a great way to get more traffic to both your website and the website of the other translator.
By following these five suggestions, you can increase the visitor traffic to your translation website and build your clientele, thus bringing in more business.
